WWE Backlash 2025: John Cena vs. Randy Orton – A Brutal War for the Undisputed Championship

In a night that will be remembered for generations, WWE Backlash 2025 delivered a main event so intense, so personal, and so violent that fans across the world are still trying to process what they witnessed. John Cena vs. Randy Orton — two of WWE’s greatest icons — clashed one more time, this time for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in what turned out to be one of the most brutal matches in Backlash history.

The stage was set. Randy Orton had shocked the world just weeks earlier by dethroning Cena with help from the returning Brock Lesnar. But tonight, there would be no outside interference, no shortcuts. Just two legends, locked in a ring, with everything to prove.

From the opening bell, the match was filled with intensity. Cena wasted no time, charging at Orton and unloading a barrage of fists. This wasn’t about respect — this was personal. Orton, ever the cold and calculating Apex Predator, absorbed the punishment and struck back with ruthless precision.

Chairs, steel steps, and even the announce table became weapons in what quickly escalated into a no-holds-barred brawl. Cena sent Orton crashing through the barricade with a shoulder tackle, while Orton countered with a DDT on the exposed concrete outside the ring.

At one point, Cena locked in the STF in the center of the ring, blood pouring from a cut above Orton’s eye. The Viper screamed in pain but refused to tap. Minutes later, Orton countered an Attitude Adjustment into an RKO — not once, but twice. Somehow, Cena kicked out at 2.9, sending the arena into a frenzy.

The match took an even darker turn when Orton exposed a turnbuckle and slammed Cena’s head into it, causing a nasty gash. Cena, dazed but defiant, rose to his feet and roared back with a Five Knuckle Shuffle followed by an AA. He covered Orton… only for The Viper to get his foot on the rope at the last second.

The war continued, each man taking years off their careers in a match that felt more like a fight for survival than for a championship. But in the end, it was Orton’s cunning that won the night. As Cena attempted a second AA, Orton raked his eyes, slipped behind, and hit a vicious RKO onto a steel chair. 1… 2… 3.

After the match, Orton stood over a broken Cena, holding the title high. The camera zoomed in on Cena, bloodied but not broken, whispering, “This isn’t over.”

Backlash 2025 delivered what it promised: pain, legacy, and war. And while Orton remains champion, Cena’s fire has not gone out. The question now is not if they’ll meet again — it’s when.
