ABSOLUTE CARNAGE! Randy Orton Ends John Cena’s Reign in a Savage Battle to Finally Win the WWE Title at Backlash

Las Vegas, NV – Backlash 2025 will go down in history as the night Randy Orton resurrected The Viper within, ending John Cena’s legendary reign in a savage, no-holds-barred WWE Championship match that pushed both men beyond their limits.

For weeks, the tension had been building. Cena, the 17-time world champion, had been running roughshod over the WWE roster, proclaiming he was still “The Face That Runs the Place.” Orton, lurking in the shadows with a venomous stare, had heard enough. At 45, many thought his best days were behind him—but they forgot what happens when you back a Viper into a corner.

From the moment the bell rang, it was war.

Cena came out firing, using his trademark power game to keep Orton on the defensive. But Orton, cold and calculating, kept slithering out of trouble—countering an early Attitude Adjustment attempt with a thunderous DDT off the ropes. It wasn’t long before the action spilled outside the ring, and that’s when the carnage truly began.

Steel chairs, announce tables, and even the steel steps became weapons. Orton introduced a level of brutality rarely seen, targeting Cena’s surgically repaired neck with merciless focus. At one point, he wrapped a steel chain around his fist and unleashed a flurry of punches that left Cena dazed and bloodied.

The crowd, split between “Let’s go Cena!” and “RKO!” chants, was electric.

Cena, as always, mounted a heroic comeback. He hoisted Orton up for another AA—this time through the announce table. It looked like the champion would retain, but Orton somehow kicked out at two and a half, drawing gasps from the stunned crowd.

Then came the turning point.

Cena went for a second-rope leg drop, but Orton caught him mid-air with a shocking RKO that shook the ring. But instead of going for the pin, Orton rolled outside and retrieved something sinister—a sledgehammer, a twisted tribute to his old Evolution mentor, Triple H.

He stalked Cena, lifted the weapon, but hesitated—just for a second.

That moment of pause allowed Cena to recover, grabbing Orton for a desperation STF. Orton writhed in agony, reaching for the ropes—but there were none. This was No Disqualification.

Just when it seemed Cena would force a submission, Orton dug deep, grabbing the chain again and raking it across Cena’s face to break the hold. He followed up with an RKO on the sledgehammer. One… two… THREE.

The arena exploded. Bloodied, exhausted, but victorious, Randy Orton stood tall with the WWE Championship in hand—his first title reign in nearly a decade.

As medical staff rushed in to check on both men, Orton simply looked into the camera and whispered, “I told you… the Viper never dies.”

Backlash delivered a war—and Randy Orton delivered a message. The Apex Predator is back, and the WWE may never be the same again.
