The wrestling world exploded this week when rising star Je’Von Evans, currently riding high on his undefeated streak in WWE’s NXT brand, unleashed a scathing promo that blurred the lines between fiction and reality.
In an exclusive backstage interview after NXT went off the air, Evans didn’t hold back when asked about former WWE standout Ricochet’s recent matches in a rival promotion. “Man, Ricochet’s out there wrestling in front of 2,000 people every week for a crackhead,” Evans scoffed. “And he wants to act like that’s the pinnacle of this game? Nah, I’m good.”
Evans didn’t name names, but fans were quick to speculate that he was referring to a prominent indie promoter—once a respected figure in wrestling but now frequently criticized for erratic behavior and controversial business dealings.
The jab comes amid growing tension between WWE and several high-profile former superstars who’ve jumped ship to smaller promotions or international circuits. Ricochet, once dubbed “The One and Only” during his WWE tenure, left the company in late 2024 after declining a contract extension. Since then, he’s been making waves on the independent scene and overseas, but Evans clearly isn’t impressed.
“Look, I get it,” Evans continued. “He was flashy. He was fast. He could fly. But the thing is, none of that matters if you can’t elevate the people around you—or yourself. What’s he done since he left? Nothing but play acrobat in bingo halls.”
While some fans applauded Evans’ brash honesty, others saw it as disrespectful. Ricochet’s supporters were quick to point out his influence on a new generation of high-flying talent—Evans included. Social media lit up with debate, with #JeVonVsRicochet trending within hours.
Sources close to WWE creative suggest that Evans’ comments may be part of a longer-term storyline, possibly teasing a future clash should Ricochet return. “There’s smoke here,” one insider noted. “Whether it’s a work or not, it’s building buzz—and that’s exactly what they want.”
Ricochet, for his part, has yet to respond directly, though he posted a cryptic tweet shortly after the interview aired: “Still flying higher than they ever will. #NoCeiling.”
Fans are now speculating whether this real-life tension could evolve into a blockbuster program down the line, possibly even at a major WWE event. For now, Evans seems unbothered.
“He chose his path,” Evans said confidently. “I’m choosing mine. And mine leads to championships, arenas packed with 15,000 people, and the kind of legacy you don’t find fighting in front of a meth-fueled promoter screaming about ‘the art.’ I’m here for greatness.”
Whether it’s a shoot or a work—or somewhere in between—one thing’s for sure: Je’Von Evans just made things very personal.
