WWE Issues Injury Update On Cody Rhodes

By Fightful Staff | May 11, 2025

In what has been a dramatic and emotional turn of events on Monday Night Raw, WWE has officially issued an injury update on “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes after a brutal post-match assault that left fans in stunned silence.

The incident occurred during the main event of Raw, where Cody faced off against Solo Sikoa in a high-stakes rematch following weeks of escalating tension with The Bloodline. After a grueling 20-minute contest that saw both men push their limits, Cody secured the victory with a Cross Rhodes—only to be blindsided seconds later by a returning Jimmy Uso, who hadn’t been seen since WrestleMania.

The Bloodline’s beatdown was merciless. After a trio of superkicks and a steel chair assault, Solo delivered a Samoan Spike that appeared to cause immediate distress. Medical officials rushed to the ring, cutting the post-show celebration short. Cody was helped to the back, unable to walk on his own power.

WWE issued the following statement early Tuesday morning:

> “Following the events that took place on Monday Night Raw, Cody Rhodes has sustained a suspected shoulder separation and severe contusions to the upper back and neck region. He is currently undergoing further evaluation and will be monitored closely by WWE medical staff. His status for upcoming live events and Payback is uncertain.”

Sources within WWE tell Fightful that while the injury is being played up for storyline purposes, Rhodes has been dealing with lingering shoulder discomfort since early April. This angle may serve as a way to give him time off, or potentially build toward a larger return arc heading into SummerSlam.

However, multiple backstage personnel expressed concern over how hard Rhodes was hit with the chair shots during the segment. One anonymous producer noted: “It wasn’t supposed to get that intense. Cody insisted on realism, and he definitely got it.”

Rhodes took to social media Tuesday afternoon to reassure fans, posting a photo of his taped-up shoulder with the caption: “Still breathing. Still fighting. Not done yet.”

The Bloodline, meanwhile, seems to have reassembled in full force—and this attack may signal their intentions to eliminate any threats to Roman Reigns’ possible return. With Paul Heyman nowhere to be seen and Jey Uso walking his own path, the group’s actions have raised more questions than answers.

WWE has already teased a “major announcement” regarding Rhodes’ condition on next week’s Raw. Fans speculate that if Rhodes is cleared, we could be headed toward a blockbuster tag match—or even a surprise main event shift at Payback.

As for Cody Rhodes’ journey to “finish the story”? It may be on pause—but it’s far from over.
